Hi! I'm Beth Johnson and want to thank you for visiting. I hope you find some good information here and take the time to get acquainted with all the Feliz dogs!

Feliz was begun back in 1997 with our first Havanese, Toby. Bob and I chose the name "Feliz" for our kennel name, because it means happy in Spanish, and this breed is the happiest breed ever! Plus, they have brought so much joy and happiness to both Bob and I, that the name was the perfect choice.

The picture above, of Bob and I is a lovely reminder of all the wonderful vacations we took together over the years. We loved going to tropical places and enjoying the sand and surf and warm sunny days. Sometimes those memories, now make me sad, but I do cherish each and every one!

Sadly, after only 25 years of marriage, my wonderful husband passed away suddenly on November 2, 2010. It's so very hard every day to face life without my partner and my love, but I know Bob would have wanted me to carry on with these awesome little dogs that brought so much to our lives. I know it won't be easy without him by my side, but I am determined to carry on the Feliz Silk Dog name, that Bob and I worked so hard to establish and are so proud of.

It can be a crazy life living with a lot of dogs, but it's a life that Bob and I loved. We were never good at rehoming our retired breeding dogs, because they were, by then, such an important part of our life & family! Thus, we have always had a huge, furry family where we were always sure to get a huge supply of great dog kisses every day!

I have a spacious fenced back yard for all my dogs to run and play in. We also fenced in a portion of the side yard, where our studs hang out when we have girls in heat. This breed LOVES to breed (grin) so it's important to separate the girls and the boys at various times throughout the year, of course. At other times, the dogs all romp and play together in the yard. In the summer I love to bring out the agilty equipment and most of our dogs will show off their natural agility skills by running happily through the tunnel or climbing on various equipment. Silk Dogs love to play and everything quickly becomes a game to them.

Most of the time, the dogs are either outside hanging out in the sun and playing or lounging around the family room. They love to lay up high on the back of the couch, like a cat! When I'm gone, and at night, the dogs get put up in their crates (their bedrooms) where I know they are safe and warm and comfortable. And YES! I do tons of dog laundry!

It's always been interesting to me, how each dogs knows his or her bedroom and go right into the right crate every single time. The dogs also eat in their crates, so I know that every single dog is eating the right amount of food and not stealing from another. This system also alerts me if someone is NOT eating. It's not unusual for Silk Dogs to be picky eaters and some days one or two may not want to eat. This is normal for them and I never worry about them not eating for a day. If two days go by, then I can usually suspect that something else might be going on with them, and I'm alerted to this by feeding them individually each day.

I am a professional groomer and groom all my own dogs. I have a nifty plastic bath tub, with a drain which I use to bathe them in.

The show dogs are kept in a long beautiful coat but our retired dogs and when a girl is pregnant, I put them in an easy to manage 'puppy clip'. While no dogs love to have a bath and be groomed, they all seem to LOVE being clipped down short. After I do it, they'll run-like-hell all over the house, rolling around and jumping off the furniture with glee! I guess they are thinking, "phew! Now I won't have to stand there for an hour while Mom combs me out and blow dries my coat!" Hey! this breed doesn't harbor any dummies!

I am passionate about health testing all my breeding dogs before I ever breed them, the first time. Please check out my Health page for more information about this.
